We stayed with my parents much of this week. As my previous post proved we had no bathroom to shower and there was a toilet in our bedroom. Luckily we have a 1/2 bath so we have an extra sink and commode. Well, the project is done, but we still need a sink and a new toilet. Anyway, we stayed with my parents for 3 nights.
Wednesday night, just another run of the mill night. We had dinner and gave Emmie a bath. She came downstairs to play in her jammies and socks WITH tred on the bottom. Brent got home and Emmie was so excited to see him, as usual. She gave him a big hug then wanted to get down again. She couldn't have walked five feet before tripping over the threshold and fell onto a brick floor. Brent thought it was just another fall- as this is typical for new walkers. But he then noticed she was shaking. He quickly ran to her and picked her up. When he flipped her over, blood was pouring down her precious little face and, of course as you can imagine, she was hysterical. Now I may be in the medical field, but when something happens to your own child my mind goes blank. I forget everything I know until I can process the situation later on. I started crying, Brent was freaking out. Thank God my mom was there, who is also a nurse. She kept us under control. We got the bleeding a bit under control and tried to figure out where it was coming from. It was her mouth and her teeth looked fuuny. I made the executive decision "let's go to the ER". I may forget my medical knowledge, but I know when something is out of my hands. They may not be able to do much, but at least we can get someone else to hold her down and take a look.
The ride to the ER was pitiful. I held her the entire way and she just cried and cried. Once we got there we tried to hide and seclude ourselves in a corner. There were sick kids everywhere- sad yes, but gross. Kids puking here, puking there. Nothing I wanted to expose Emmie to. Her doctor was great and she wanted nothing to do with her nurse. The treatment was great- a popsicle and some tylenol. No stitches needed. Injuries in the inner mouth tend to heal on their own. Thank heavens. So we were sent home and my little angel fell asleep on the way, bloody pj's and all. When we got back to my parents my mom had gone out to the store and bought Emmie new jammies, blankie and more socks with TRED.
It was a rough night. She woke up often and we kept her loaded with tylenol (FYI- motrin increases bleeding in the first 24 hours). She did sleep with her paci that night and it would be the last time she could enjoy it.

Blurry, but one of her last pics with her paci
I took her to the pediatric dentist the next morning. He was great. Emmie hated him, but what do you expect. In a nutshell her front top tooth is loose and only time will tell if it will get stronger or turn black (if the nerve dies). In the meantime we have to go cold turkey on giving up paci. OUCH! UGH, not fun but we will do what we need to to keep her tooth in place. So we go back in three weeks and we should know more then. Stay tuned and wish us luck.
Day 1 post trauma- swollen lip, but still smiling
An update on Emmie- she is playing and feeling better. I think she caught a cold from the ER, her lip swelling is down and mouth is healing. Kids bounce back so great. Mom and Dad are a bit on the overprotective side right now...

We've been thinking and praying for Miss Emmie since her accident. Glad to see she is on the mend!
